The department is undertaking planning for the remaining sections of the Ipswich Motorway between Rocklea and Darra. Stage 1 included a 3km section of the Ipswich Motorway from Granard Road, Rocklea to just east of the Oxley Road Interchange, Oxley. The staged upgrades of the remaining sections of the Ipswich Motorway aim to improve safety, capacity and journey reliability as well as active transport links across and along the motorway. Stage 2 involves upgrading the Oxley Road Interchange. Stage 3 is the remaining section of motorway from Oxley Road Interchange, Oxley to Centenary Motorway, Darra. TMR engaged Bennett + Bennett to prepare a Ground and Feature Model using Mobile Laser Scanning (MLS) technology of a 6km section of the Ipswich Motorway plus the Centenary Motorway Interchange, offramps and service roads. This survey was to enable detailed design of the road infrastructure upgrades. This survey met the accuracy requirements stated for pavement widening/overlay in Section 1.3.1.4 of Part B of the TMR Surveying Standards January 2022. Bennett + Bennett used an innovative combined Ultra Rich ALS and MLS approach to increase accuracy and provide superior point cloud coverage. String, vertex and surface feature extraction was completed from the point cloud to produce a 12D Ground and Feature Model to TMR specifications.
