This project involved Bennett + Bennett working closely with the architect and Brisbane City Council to resolve design challenges and land use compliance matters to ultimately achieve a high quality mixed use residential and retail outcome within the Mount Gravatt East centre, Brisbane.
The project consisted of a mixed use outcome comprising 38 residential apartments over five (5) levels, and ground floor retail tenancies, designed to be consistent with the planning objectives for the locality.
The proposal presented a range of challenges including establishing and negotiating an appropriate mix of residential and non-residential uses, and designing a project that was sympathetic to the existing urban context whilst acknowledging the strategic vision for the locality of greater density.
Extensive negotiations with Council and design review ultimately resulted in a high quality building design that satisfied the client’s objectives whilst ensuring an appropriate planning outcome was achieved for the locality.
