MD Update (October – December 2018)

It’s hard to believe that another year is nearly over, but what a fantastic year it has been for the whole Bennett + Bennett team.

We have been privileged to celebrate our 50th year in business, which was truly a proud milestone. And, this was made even more special by having one of our founding brothers, Ted Bennett involved in the celebrations. Ted was incredibly gracious with his time and shared some interesting stories about the early days of Bennett + Bennett, the evolution of high-rise development on the Gold Coast and how they overcame construction and titling challenges during the 1970’s and 1980’s.

In August, we were awarded the APSEA Award for Technical Excellence for work completed on the proposed Sundale Bridge upgrade for Gold Coast City Council. This was by far one of our biggest highlights being recognised as a business, and for the hard work and expertise that our Spatial division was able to provide.

Leadership Program

This year was the inaugural year for our ’Step Up’ Leadership Program in which we had 20 future leaders from the company attend a full day of activities at the Sleeman Sports Complex in Chandler. The day proved challenging, testing everyone mentally and physically whilst also providing plenty of laughs and encouraging teamwork.

Regional Projects

2018 brought about many new opportunities across all our regions; some highlight projects being:

  • The Brisbane Metro, including 3D mapping services located along part of the proposed route – Brisbane Office
  • Mapping of the Mount Coot-tha Zipline – Brisbane Office
  • The Sundale Bridge upgrade and the collaboration of scanning, photogrammetric and conventional survey data – Gold Coast Office
  • The GC Light Rail Stage 3A, including scanning of the entire length of the proposed route – Gold Coast Office
  • Jewel, including providing survey set out control for the entire project – Gold Coast Office
  • Providing survey services on the iconic Barneson Boulevard and Tiger Brennan Road upgrade – Darwin Office
  • Completion of the New Palmerston Hospital – Darwin Office
  • Ongoing works at the Tindal Airforce Base at Katherine – Darwin Office

End of year celebration

To finish off the year, we recently held our end of year celebration at the Skypoint Observation Deck at the very top of Q1 on the Gold Coast. A personal highlight for myself was being able to reward our Bennett + Bennett Value Awards winners and taking a moment to recognise their achievements in front of the entire company. They have excelled, and we are incredibly lucky to have them as part of our greater team.

The Values Award winners were;

Leadership: Liam Murphy (Survey Team Leader – Brisbane)

Authenticity: Mylair Taraby (Human Resources Manager – Brisbane)

Teamwork: David Lee (Senior Drafter – Brisbane)

Success: Nelson Robinson (Surveyor – Sunshine Coast)

Solutions: Ben Blackburn (Surveyor – Gold Coast)

MD Update (October – December 2018)

Next year is shaping up to be an even bigger year, with several large projects commencing in 2019. These include Cross River Rail, Brisbane Metro, ongoing works on Queen’s Wharf and Gold Coast Light rail to name few. Opportunities are sure to arise from these projects, which is great news for the development industry in South East Queensland.

On a personal note, it has been big initiation for me moving into the role of Managing Director and I feel very blessed to be supported by such a great team of professionals. Thank you, to all my fellow Bennett + Bennett colleagues.

And, to our wonderful clients. Some of you we have been privileged to work with for many years and I want to personally thank you for your continued support. To those new clients, thank you for joining us and I hope this is the beginning of a great partnership!

Wishing you and all your families a very Merry Christmas and Happy and safe New Year.
