You know the guy that lives and breathes sport….talks about it….. knows all about the footy scores from the weekend… all the players names, position and stats…. but also knows that West Nowhere has just beaten North Somewhere in 8th division soccer in the Scottish Highlands and that has kept them out of being demoted to 9th division…..

That’s the guy who really loves his sport.

So when it comes to the big sporting events like an Olympic & Paralympic Games, we eat and breathe it, up all night watching the live scores and the replays and channel flicking through the many different events.

A zombie by day and glued in at night….

An Olympic & Paralympic Games is our version of Christmas – sensational.

So on the 21st July 2021 when the IOC president, Thomas Bach, announced that Brisbane would host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games we were pretty excited to the point where it will go down on the memory bank, right next to the date of my wedding and my wife’s birthday (dates to dare not forget……)

Olympics to us is 24 hour sport of the highest quality and the greatest of entertainment.

It is action packed, excitement plus, things happening everywhere.

– and they have said that they will attend as many events as possible, and when they are not at the games, they will be aiming to watch it all on the big screens at home, so they don’t miss anything….

Okay, so we may be exaggerating a bit but this is definitely a major highlight for us Queenslanders.

We spoke to 2 of our Directors – Paul Jones & Craig Wood who have that sport loving mentality and have connection with the big Games events.

We go back in time firstly before we talk more about the 2032 Olympics……

1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games (Director – Paul Jones):

These games were one of Brisbane and SE Qld’s finest moments. Some great memories as an 18 year old, especially of the QE2 Stadium when the great British Decathlete Daley Thompson was in action.

This event put us on the map, showcasing SE Qld’s ability to hold such a big sporting event.

2000 Sydney Olympic Games (Brisbane Office Manager & Director – Craig Wood)

Director Craig Wood was lucky enough to begin his survey career living and breathing the Sydney Olympics. Growing up and living in Sydney, Craig began working in the surveying industry in 1996 around the time when numerous Olympic projects were under construction and Sydney was a buzz with activity. Being able to work on Olympic projects such as the Sydney Showgrounds, Ryde Olympic Pool and the urban renewal for the Olympic Village at Homebush was an amazing experience.

The sheer scale of some of these projects was amazing to see and the transformation of previous rundown areas into fresh vibrant places changed the face of Sydney forever. The Olympic Park Precinct at Homebush has been a fantastic example of urban renewal turning a heavily polluted industrial area into a vibrant precinct that is thriving to this day.

Craig noted ‘I was lucky enough with my family to attend numerous sporting events during the 2000 Olympics such as Hockey, Tennis, Track and field events and still hold many keep sakes to this day. These include the original Olympic program, ticket stubs and numerous photos of the Olympics in action. Being able to build the games, watch the games and see the effect the Olympics had on the city of Sydney has got me very excited for Brisbane 2032.’

The legacy that the games will leave will be something that future generations will benefit from for years after the games are finished. Looking back on some of the Sydney 2000 memorabilia has got me very excited for Brisbane 2032. I cannot wait !

Director Paul Jones was one of the many volunteers for the Games which was a wonderful experience. ‘The clothes still fit me – just – and Sydney was going hard all day and all night. It was a fantastic fun and exciting time.’

2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (Director – Paul Jones)

Gold Coast showed its ability to run a major sporting event and the experiences gained from this event will hold the Gold Coast in good stead for its role in the 2032 Olympic & Paralympic Games.

The 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games

The 2032 Brisbane Olympics & Paralympics is also a chance for many business’s to get on board the Olympic train and the business we are partners in….. Bennett + Bennett….. are ready and keen to be involved in the transformation of our region, plus we have that sporting and major infrastructure experience.

The 2032 Olympics & Paralympics will catapult south-east Queensland onto the world stage, but there’s a long way to go before the region will be ready to meet the demands of hosting the Games but over the next 11 years, authorities will pour major resources and money into transforming Brisbane into a new world city. Do your research on the infrastructure proposed and in discussion at the moment.

“You literally couldn’t buy the type of name recognition that the Olympics would bring to a city,” Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner told the ABC.

The build up could be ‘nearly’ as exciting as the event itself!!

We will tell you more about Bennett + Bennett and it’s experiences in the New Year, today we focus on the excitement of being mad sports fans and proud Queenslander.

Well done to the Bid team for getting this over the line.
