A new model planning code is being considered by the Queensland State Government which could not only see the removal of cul-de-sacs from future developments, but also introduce many key changes to future residential developments, with a focus on pedestrians and outdoor lifestyle, including:
- Access to parks should be within 5-minutes’ walk of a resident’s home
- Footpaths widened, with walkable grid-like street layouts
- No street blocks should be longer than 200m
- Any block greater than 130m should have a pedestrian link
B+B will be submitting our recommendations to the State Government by September 1 for the new Model Code for Neighbourhood Design, and we invite your thoughts, comments and ideas.
